Another topic this term is Wara Bilong Life, Water for Survival.
This is a project where we are going to be helping schools in the Highlands in Papua New Guinea.
We need to come up with a method of washing hands that requires very little water.
It should be lots of fun.
You can visit the website for more on this project. Tell us about any interesting information that you discover.

Earth Science
Yesterday we looked at how we get day and night on Earth.
We learnt that the Moon takes 28 days to go around the Earth.
That the suns takes 24 hours to spin once on it's axis and that it takes 12 months for the Earth to go around the sun.
One thing we didn't find out was....why do we have seasons??
Do you know why???

The BIG question
Our big question for our inquiry unit is...
How can we protect our lagoon?
To find out how to do this we first need to ask some other questions to find out how to best protect our lagoon.
Some questions we have are...
How can we stop the rabbits digging up the plants?
What surroundings to the birds need to live?
What type of plants can we plant at the lagoon?
What type of plants do the birds like?
What type of birds live in the conditions at the lagoon?
and How can we stop the sea coming up to the lagoon?
We have heaps more questions, but if you know or find out the answers to these questions please post a comment.

Wednesday 16th April
We have been learning about how yeast works. Did you know that yeast is actually a living thing??? It comes to life when you add sugar and warm water. We did an experiment with yeast. We put yeast, sugar and hot water into a bottle and then put a balloon on the top of it. what do you think happened next???
Well....there was so much gas made that the balloon POPPED!! We had to put another one on the bottle.
On the 25th of April it is ANZAC day. ANZAC day is in the holidays this year.
Why do we celebrate ANZAC day????

Friday 4th April

Yesterday we opened our Italian restaurant 'A little bit of Italy' in the hall foyer. In the morning we got into groups to start making the food. We made chocolate cake, spaghetti bologense, pasta with home made tomato sauce and pizzas.
At 11:30 we opened our doors to the customers. We worked in two teams, team 1 went first and served and looked after the first set of customers. Jobs that we had were Kitchen hand, Waiter and waitresses, Maitre De's and chefs. At 12:30 the teams swapped over and a new lot of customers arrived.
It was very busy in the kitchen but luckly we had an awesome team of parent helpers who made sure everyone got their orders.
Everyone worked really well and we had an awesome day. We especially like eating the left over food when everyone had gone.

28 March 2008
We have had a busy day today. We have been getting ready for our Italian restaurant we are having on Thursday. This morning we finished off our menus with our partner on the cows. We are going to send these home so our parents can ring up and book a seat and order what they would like to eat.
Next we went off to our maths classes. Children in room 1 have are learning to count backwards to solve subtraction problems. We are trying to do this in our heads.
After lunch it was time for our school assembly. It was room 10's turn to lead it and they all did a fantastic job. Caleb got the certificate for being a respectful member of the class and always using his manners.
We then looked at some art work by a famous Italian artist called Botticelli. He used to do some of his art work in a circle. we then tried to give this a go and drew a picture of a gold fish pond in a circle. There are some great artists in our class.

Thursday 6th March
We started today off with the roll and then we shared some great jokes and poems with the class.
After that we got straight into reading. Some of us are working at understanding what we are reading. After play we went to our new rooms for maths. Oliver's group is learning to count on from the biggest number first. Ben's group is learning to skip count in 2's and 5's and 10's. Robert R's group is learning basic facts.
After lunch had silent reading then we went down to Maori Park for swimming. We are learning to do lots of different things at the pool. We got back at 2:30 and missed out on our fruit and vegie break.
