Our Egyptian Feast

Today we had an Egyptian feast to celebrate the end of our topic this term.
Some of us dressed up as Egyptians. They looked really cool. What do you think??
After read and feed we started making the food. We made falafel, hummas and salad. We also had pita bread, dates, grapes and ginger beer. Mrs Wynn set a challenge for us to try everything. Most of us did, it was really yummy, but people were a little bit fussy. Mrs Wynn was really impressed with how everyone worked together and tried all of the food. Well done guys.
A big THANK YOU!!! to all of our parent helpers...we couldn't do it without you.

Week 6 Poem
My New Pet
I asked my father for a pet.
He said, “I’ll take you shopping.”
My father took me to a store
where animals were hopping.
He asked me, “Which one do you like?”
So I picked out a puppy,
a parakeet, a rabbit,
plus a gerbil and a guppy.
I also picked a monkey
and a yellow Siamese cat,
a turtle, snake, and lizard,
plus a very big white rat.
My dad said, “If you want a pet,
then you will have to feed it.”
Instead, I picked a storybook.
I cannot wait to read it.

Week 5 Poem
All My Great Excuses
I started on my homework,
but my pen ran out of ink…
My hamster ate my homework…
My computer’s on the blink…
I tripped and dropped my homework
in the soup my mom was cooking…
My brother flushed it down the toilet
when I wasn’t looking…
My mother ran my homework
through the washer and the dryer…
An airplane crashed into our house…
My homework caught on fire…
Tornadoes blew my notes away…
Volcanoes rocked our town…
My books were taken hostage
by an evil killer clown…
Some aliens abducted me…
I had a shark attack…
A pirate swiped my homework
and refused to give it back…
I worked on these excuses
so long my teacher said,
“I think you’ll find it’s easier
to do the work instead.”

Week 4 Poem
Today I had a Rotten Day
Today I had a rotten day
as I was coming in from play.
I accidently stubbed my toes
and tripped and fell and whacked my nose.
I chipped my tooth. I cut my lip.
I scraped my knee. I hurt my hip.
I pulled my shoulder, tweaked my ear,
and got a bruise upon my rear.
I banged my elbow, barked my shin.
A welt is forming on my chin.
My pencil poked me in the thigh.
I got an eyelash in my eye.
I sprained my back. I wrenched my neck.
I'm feeling like a total wreck.
Co that's the last time I refuse
when teacher says to tie my shoes.

Playground trip to the bay
Yesterday we went to the bay to look at the the playground down there.
We looked at the kinds of equipment that they have and how they have
made the playground safe for us to use.
We have lots of fun playground there.
Tell us what was your favourite thing to play on???
What was the one you didn't like???

Week 3 Poem
Getting Dressed for School
I must have been too sleepy
getting dress for school today.
I tried to tuck my shirt in,
but I couldn't make it stay.
I also couldn't tie my shoes.
I fumbled with the laces.
i snagged my scarf, and now some yarn
is dangling from my braces.
My socks are different colours,
and my pants are inside out.
My sweater from the hamper left me
smelling like a trout.
I thought I put a hat on
to control my crazy hair.
The hat turned out to be a pair
of purple underwear.
I spilled my breakfast on my clothes
and headed into school.
My friends, of course, were impressed.
I'd never looked so cool.

Week 2 Poem
My Mother
She's always sewing buttons on
Or mending things I tear.
Whenever I come home from school
I always find her there.
She's always doing little things
That please me very much
Like making cakes and planning trips
To parks and zoos, and such.
She's always reading stories, too
Or teaching me a game,
And whether I've been good or bad
She loves me just the same.
Are you suprised that I find her
Dearer than any other?
I'm sure by now you know her name
Of course....she is my mother!
Happy Mother's Day Mum.

Week 1 Poem
Don't Bring Camels inthe Classroom
Don't bring camels in the classroom
Don't bring scorpions to school.
Don't bring rhinos, rats, or reindeer.
Don't bring mice or moose or mule.
Pull your penguin off the playground.
Put your python in a tree.
Place your platypus where ever
you think platypi should be.
Lose your leopard and your lemur.
Leave your llama and your leech.
Take your tiger, toad and toucan
Anywhere but where they teach.
Send your wombat and your weasel
with your wasp and wolverine.
Hide your hedgehog and hyena
where you're sure they won't be seen.
Please get rid of your gorilla.
Please kick out your kangaroo.
No, the teacher didn't mean it
when she called the class a "zoo."

Week 10 Poem
Secret Information
Would you like to know a secret?
Well, I'll tell you one I know:
The Easter's Bunny's coming,
My mama told me so.
He'll bring a basket filled with eggs
And leave it in my yard,
And I will find it Easter morn,
If I look very hard.
I shouldn't tell my secret,
But I think it should be shared.
You ought to know that Bunny's coming,
So you can be prepared!

Kiwiana Celebration
Yesterday we had a celebration of what we had been learning about this term...Kiwiana & being proud to be a Kiwi. We dressed up in things that show we are a Kiwi and had a shared lunch. Our whole learning team went over to the hall and we had a parade of everyone who was dressed up and then we sang some New Zealand songs. After this we went back to our classes for a shared lunch with out parents. We had Kiwiana food...there was Marmite on toast, savs, Kiwifruit and pineapple lump kebabs, pavlovas and lot of other yummy treats. We all had lots of fun and it was a great way to end our topic.

Week 9 Poem
What I Found in My Desk
A ripe peach with an ugly bruise,
A pair of stinky tennis shoes,
a day-old-ham-and-cheese on rye
a swimsuit that I left to dry,
a pencil that glows in the dark,
some bubble gum found in the park,
a paper bag with cookie crumbs,
an old kazoo that barely hums,
a spelling test I almost failed,
a letter that I should have mailed,
and one more thing, I must confess,
a note from teacher: Clean This Mess!!!!

Week 8 Poem
Twenty Bucks
When I asked dad for twenty bucks,
He said, “Let’s make a deal.
I’ll give you money only if
You eat a healthy meal.”
I found him sitting on the couch
Before I went to bed.
I looked into his tired eyes
And this is what I said:
“I finished all my vegetables.
The carrots tasted great!
I ate the piece of celery
That mum put on my plate.
The eggplant was delicious
And the string beans were divine.
The peppers were fantastic
And the broccoli was fine.
The giant baked potato
Was the highlight of my night.
The juicy red tomato
Filled my belly with delight.
My dad said he was proud of me
And handed me the cash.
I hope he doesn’t find out
All this food is in the trash!

Poem of the Week
A Fish in a Spaceship
A fish in a spaceship is flying through school.
A dinosaur's dancing on top of a stool.
The library's loaded with orange baboons,
in purple tuxedos with bows and balloons.
The pigs on the playground are having a race
while pencils parade in their linens and lace.
As camels do cartwheels and elephants fly,
bananas are baking a broccoli pie.
A hundred gorillas are painting the walls,
while robots on rockets careen through the halls.
Tomatoes are teaching in all of the classes.
Or maybe, just maybe, I need some new glasses.

Community Whanau Time
Today we went to our Community Whanau groups. In room 1 we have children who go to the kapahaka group, the science young discovers group, the clean up team, the community service group, the community art group, the tech angels group and the website group.
Some of the things we did in our groups was...learnt how to use the new COWS and the old COWS, writting letters to kindys to see if we can come visit, looking at other schools websites, looking at erosion, looking at where we could put art work into our school environment and looking at our enviro schools map and what our team could do around the school.
We were very busy and excited about all the things that our groups are going to be doing.
