It was the day 45 Maori chiefs signed a document with three clauses :-
1. the natives give to the Queen the sovereignty (power of the monarch)of the country;
2. they were guaranteed the possession of their lands, forests and fisheries which they agreed to sell oly to the Crown;
3. they were accorded(harmony) all the rights and privileges of British subjects.
By the end of June the document had been signed by 512 chiefs.
