It was the day 45 Maori chiefs signed a document with three clauses :-
1. the natives give to the Queen the sovereignty (power of the monarch)of the country;
2. they were guaranteed the possession of their lands, forests and fisheries which they agreed to sell oly to the Crown;
3. they were accorded(harmony) all the rights and privileges of British subjects.
By the end of June the document had been signed by 512 chiefs.

We have Waitangi day because it is the day the treaty of Waitangi was signed between the Maoris and the Europeans
Mum said People from the British Crown and over 500 Maori chiefs signed a document on the 6th of february and now its new zealands national day, so it new zealand day which we call Waitangi Day. We looked up stuff on the internet which was fun but there wasn't much for kids. From Sarla (mum helped me write this)
